A large heavy shell, roundly triangular and moderately inflated. Smooth on the surface except for fine growth lines. It is white inside and out, rather like porcellain on the inside. The outside may be covered with a worn straw coloured periostracum (skin).
Buried in clean sand off open beaches. More abundant in the south.
Filter feeder.
Broadcast spawner.
