These plants are densely tufted, with equal divisions on the tips (dichotomously branched) these are usually on several different planes. Reaches 2-3 (sometimes 5) cm high. Calcified. Attached by a disc-like holdfast. Colour is pale pink to pinkish grey and feels brittle.
Common on large brown algae, especially zigzag weed (Cystophora) on open rough water coasts. Less common on rocks.
Uses the suns energy for photosynthesis.
