Plants erect upto 50cm high, dichotomously branched into strap like segments up to 2cm wide. Mature fronds are covered with tongue like projections. and become very shaggy when old. Holdfast is a disc with root-like lobes. Colour is golden brown to dark brown, texture is firm,
Found on rock at low water spring to deeper water on open coasts.
Uses sun's energy for photosynthesis.
