It is volcano shaped with four defined outer shell plates. The shell is often yellow and thick with longitudinal ribs.
It is found on exposed rocky shores from mid to low tide.
Filters plankton out of the water by kicking it's appendages ("legs") out of the shell plates to net the plankton.
