Their body is light brown or beige, the outer plates are fused and the top valves form a well defined puzzle piece.
They encrust large surfaces of rock and shells in mid to high tide zones.
Filter plankton from the water using their hairy "legs".
Experiments have shown they can survive very high temperatures.
