These amphipods are characterized by slender bodies and elongated appendages. Their skeletal appearance gives rise to the common name of "skeleton shrimp". Their distinctive upright feeding posture, gives them a striking resemblance to stick insects or "starved praying mantises".


Occur only on seaweeds. Up to a few thouands of individuals can be found on one plant.


Omniverous, adaptable, opportunistic feeders. Feed on everything from detritus to seaweed and other small creatures.
