This small biscuit star is orange or buff with orange red marginal plates, underneath is creamy white. Scattered glassy warts on the surface of the marginal plates.The form of this starfish varies considerably.


Deepwater. Cook Strait to Snares Islands.


It is a scavenger.


Sometimes Brooch Stars among others are cast ashore along the Otago Coast after a storm. Asterodon dilatatusis an unaccepted name
