A small oval shell, solid. Apex is centrally placed and the shell is smooth or may have weak ribs. It is greyish white to light brown and has radiating dark lines and blotches.
Found in small pits, crevices or empty barnacle shells, or between mussels and oysters on exposed to modereatly sheltered shores. It is found in the upper to low intertidal. Common throughout NZ.
Grazes on microalgae.
