The colouration of this shell-less, slug-like animal is variable, usually black or grey but can be red, orange or dirty yellow in colour. The dorsal surface can be smooth or granulated. Have a pair of tentacles with eyes at their tips.

Common in the mid to low tide zone, on rock near muddy substrates. Shelters under seaweed, among oysters, in crevices or tidal pools. Often overlooked due to being well camouflaged.

Grazes on algae on the rocks?

Known to secrete a substance that other animals dislike reducing the number of potential predators. Individuals have both male and female sex organs (hermaphrodite).
