A spherical sponge with a attachment disc or short “roots”. It is rose pink externally and dull pink internally. The texture is firm and rough to touch. The surface is irregular and is frequently covered in filamentous outgrowths that support buds.

Common in low intertidal to 30 m on rocky shores in well-lit conditions where there is moderate water movement.

It filters microscopic phytoplankton out of the water.

Little seed sponges bud off to develop new sponges.
